Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) stands as Kazakhstan's oldest classical university and its undisputed flagship institution of higher education. Named after the great medieval philosopher and scholar Abu Nasr al-Farabi, the university carries forward a legacy of intellectual excellence that bridges Eastern and Western philosophical traditions.

With over 20,000 students and 2,500 faculty members, KazNU has transformed into a world-class research university. In 2022, it was officially granted research university status by the Government of Kazakhstan, with a comprehensive development program through 2026.

Campus & Student Life

KazNU's main campus, "Kazgugrad," spans 100 hectares in one of Almaty's most beautiful areas, making it the largest campus in Kazakhstan. The campus features thirteen educational buildings totaling 165,000 m², scientific laboratories covering 18,940 m², and seventeen dormitories.

Located at the foot of the majestic Alatau mountains, the campus offers stunning surroundings combined with modern facilities and a vibrant multicultural atmosphere. Students enjoy a dynamic campus life with numerous organizations, clubs, sports facilities, and cultural events.
