FMGE Eligibility Criteria

Nationality Requirement

Only Indian citizens or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are eligible. Foreign nationals cannot appear for FMGE.

Degree Recognition

Must hold a primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) from a university/institution recognized by the Indian Embassy of that country.

Internship Completion

Must have completed a one-year internship in the country of study (where applicable) before applying for provisional registration in India.

Attempts & Age

No age limit and no limit on attempts – candidates can take the exam multiple times until they pass.

Country-Specific Important Notes

China & Russia: Only full-time MBBS degrees are valid (not online/distance learning). Students must confirm their university is recognized by the Indian Embassy .

Ukraine & Philippines: Medical curriculum must align with NMC guidelines. For the Philippines, only Doctor of Medicine (MD) programs with mandatory internship are valid .
